Are we really progressing? Or is the societal pressure holding us back?

What is society?
A society is a group of individuals involved in a persistent social interaction, or a large social group sharing the same geographical or social territory, typically subject to the same political authority and dominant cultural expectations. (as per Wikipedia)

We as individuals form the society, right? Then why are we the ones who have to carry the burden of what our previous generations have done and what was accepted and what was not?
India is progressing yet we are stuck where now also at our homes parents or relatives point towards what will people think and they won\’t accept this behavior of yours, we have to live in this society, don\’t behave a certain way people will blame the upbringing of your parents and shame would come upon your parents or family.

Are we really progressing?
This may not be applicable to metro cities families where to some extent parents and society has become liberal but for most of the second tier cities the situations are the same.
Parents at home say, go out of the house and do whatever you want to do, we have to live in the colony, society or city, we don\’t want people calling us names. Are they really that much pressurized by other people\’s opinions?
Our choices have just become a myth. People go to metropolitan cities to make a career and to live the life they want to. Many people come willingly and some just come because their parents or societal pressure has given them no choice.
\”Sharmaji ka beta\” is used in a lot of puns but it is really a very impactful phrase as it shows the pressure which every kid faces.
Plus if you are a girl, then you have many pressures or burden on your shoulder. You have to think of your family as well as the family you would go after marriage, doesn\’t matter what age you are. Your curfew time is way before your brother\’s or maybe not but definitely more restrictions than your brother\’s.
Societal pressure has just blinded the sight of every one, we judge people no matter what the situation is. Maybe the situation is very different than what we are thinking but our perception is made by just a look or behavior.

Are we ready to change the society and its norms or just continue the rat race which our previous generations were part of?
